While you won’t have years to refine your techniques, you will try your hand at each to create a unique final composition. You’ll also create a low relief carving of a creature honored in early Chinese bronze sculptures.

Skills: calligraphy, poetry, painting, printmaking, carving on metal

Take a tour around the world through the arts! Northfield Arts Guild homeschool classes inspire students to tie together various strands of their learning, from history to science to literature and folklore, through experiential art, music, and dance-focused lessons. Thoughtful prompts generated by knowledgeable instructors cultivate student-centered discussion at the beginning of class. Students investigate, experiment, and emulate arts-based techniques and skills centered around the celebrated art forms of that particular culture and era. Students will use the highest quality age-appropriate materials. Every class culminates in original artwork driven by each student’s unique creative vision.

Teens do not need to come prepared with prior knowledge, but investigation beforehand is encouraged to help facilitate discussions.

About the instructor: Kelly Lynn Stanton-Nutt, is better known as “Ms. Kelly” by her students. She has been teaching Art at St. Dominic School for the past five years. A love of travel provides a world of creative inspiration in the art studio with her students. She was a graphic designer for several years before getting her MS in Art & Design Education from Pratt Institute.

Target age range: Classes are designed for teens ages 13–18 years
All abilities are welcome; if your child needs accommodations, please discuss these with the instructor prior to the beginning of the class so that Northfield Arts Guild can make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations.
