Minnesota Renaissance Festival

Merchants will demonstrate a variety of crafts such as glass blowing, print making, candle making, face painting, musical instruments, pottery, sculpture and more! There are many educational events and entertainment including Contests, Renaissance History, Live Action Jousting, Courtly Dance Lessons, Renaissance Games, Juggling School, and more.

Explore Shepard's Green, Oven Hill Market, Tree Top Round, Market Place, Folkstone Well, Upson Downs, Narrow Market, Cartwheel Cove.

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival began its journey in September of 1971 on a 22-acre field in Jonathan, Minnesota. More than 25,000 people visited the two weekend grand opening of the festival than named “A Celebration of Nature, Art, and Life!” That celebration has since relocated to Shakopee and has grown to be the largest Renaissance Festival in the United States with an annual attendance of 300,000.

Individual homeschool families can get the school group rate for Education Day , also known as Festival Friday and School Day, by ordering online and using the promotional link below! No minimum group size required!

Cost per adult/educator: $13.95
Cost per child/student in 7th–12th grades (ages 13–17 years): $13.95 (same as adult)
Cost per child/student in 1st–6th grade (ages 5–12 years): $8.95
Cost per child/student ages 4 years and under: free (no ticket required)

Admission includes free parking and all entertainment shows, including Tournament Jousting. You may choose to purchase food or beverages, arts and crafts item, rides and games or Daily Royal Events — costs vary.

Homeschoolers may purchase food booklets for $5 at the front gates before entrance into the Festival. The School Day Bag Lunch (Hot Dog, Apple Sauce & Juice Box for $3) will be available for walk-up purchase from a designated booth on Education Day.

FYI: Weekend gate tickets prices for 2017 are $23.95/adults and children ages 13 and up and $14.95/child ages 5–12. Gate ticket price for Festival Friday is $15/person. Group rate pricing normally requires a minimum group size of 10 people.

NOTE: All major stages are open, but the vendors are not required to be open for Festival Friday, so expect to see a few closed booths.

Activities & Entertainment

  • Cale the Juggler: Comedic fire juggling, fire breathing, and world class precarious stunts. Cale breaks down and rebuilds Newtonian Law in a fit of primed crackerjack fury. A truly unpredictable, all inclusive show suitable for all ages and everything in between!
  • Children’s Costume Contest: Lads and lassies can compete in a Renaissance Costume Contest. Children 12 & under are welcome to participate in this fun daily event for prizes!
  • Children’s Knighting Ceremony: Children can receive the highest badge of honor by being knighted by the King and his Royal Court! Held daily at 3:30pm on the King’s Arbor Stage.
  • Danger Committee: The Danger Committee is an incredible combination of juggling, knife throwing, spine-tingling thrills and hilarious comedy. Check them out on the Bakery Stage!
  • Dr. Thora Pandora’s Chemistry Experience: Come experience the fun-filled magic of science and physics! Your children will love the smoke bubbles, Newtonian beads, elephant toothpaste, and rainbow creations.
  • Grand March Parade: Watch the Royal Court and other Festival Entertainers joyously greet all Festival Goers in this daily parade at 11:30am!
  • Fairy Wand Making: Follow the trail of pixie dust to the Children’s Realm so your child can make a FREE magical Fairy Wand with fairy friends!
  • Fandazzi: Fandazzi Fire Circus is a live music and fire performance troupe that was founded in 2004 to bring the mystery, magic, and bright presence of a gypsy family to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. They are an ever-evolving Twin Cities based fire circus performing Live Music, Dance, and feats of MORE FIRE!!!!
  • Fairy Wing Forest: Venture into the shaded garden that has been transformed and filled with fairies, pixies, nymphs, and other magical creatures that now call the forest their home.
  • Felton the Troll: Felton the Troll, and his friend Jeff, are a joy… when not being terrors. When not fishing for babies, Jeff and Felton can be found near Bad Manor in their Conversation Booth having interactive conversations with anyone and everyone. Jeff is also a member of Vilification Tennis.
  • Herpetological Petting Zoo: Slither your way through the reptile petting zoo where you can find turtles, snakes, alligators and more!
  • Irish Cottage: Cooking demos, stories, and music from 9:00am – 12:00pm.
  • Joust: Watch live armored jousting every day at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 4:00pm on the Joust Track!
  • Juggling School: Learn how to be a juggling master at the Juggling School!
  • Meet the King & Queen: Relive history and meet King Henry and Queen Elizabeth at the Festival!
  • Meet the Princess Court: Come meet the beautifully poised young ladies of the princess court! You can even have lunch with them and learn princess etiquette!
  • Mermaid Cove: Watch as they dive, flip, and twirl majestically in the water! If you’re lucky, they may share a token of their magic with you.
  • Morris Dancers: Minnesota Traditional Morris is a men’s English folk dance team dancing a style of Morris, originating in the Cotswold Hills of central England— hence the style is known as Cotswold Morris. Morris dances are performed by from 1 to 8 team members dancing to music provided by violin, melodeon, pipe & tabor, even the voices of the dancers themselves. It is exuberant, boisterous, and vital fun!
  • Nostrathomas: An eccentric street performer claiming to be the half–wi.. Oops – half brother of Nostradamus, Nostrathomas is a strolling magician capable of amusing and confusing all he comes in contact with. He’s impossible to miss as, in addition to his obviously unique appearance, he also seems to have acquired several dozen bells. He disputes the myth that this is to warn the unwary of his approach.
  • Pansy the Unicorn: The Ren Fest's beloved mascot, Pansy is always ready to play. Catch her exploring the realm, entertaining, dancing, prancing, hugging and charming the crowd!
  • Petting Zoo: Meet many new animal friends such as sheep, rabbits, chicken and so much more!
  • Pirate Hat Making: All swashbuckling children are welcome to make FREE pirate hats in the Children’s Realm throughout the day!
  • Puppet Troupe: The Puppet Troupe has been running amok throughout the lanes of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival since 1986. Consisting of King Bubba, Queen Bea, Sparkles the Wizard, Shirley the Jester, Willy the Pirate, and Good Knight, the members of the puppet troupe are head and shoulders above the rest of the village’s citizens- literally. If you see them about (and believe me, they are hard to miss) they love to pose for portraits, crack jokes, and swap stories with all tiny visitors to the kingdom.
  • Riddle Masters: The Riddle Masters of Hollow Hill have been baffling brains for over a quarter of a century. Test your wits with tongue-twisting riddles from the troll, the green woman, the druid, the woodland fairy, or our wise wizard!
  • Robin Hood and The Merry Men : A show for the bold…or at least they think so! Watch the antics of our favorite outlaw, Robin Hood, and his friends, Little John, Maid Marion and more!
  • Rosie Krantz & Guildenstern: Hangin’ with the Bard: Think you don’t know much about Shakespeare? Rosie Krantz and Guildenstern just may surprise you on how much you really know about the Bard Of Avon. Using the game of hangman we all played as children, Rosie and Guil reveal common phrases that we still use today that originated within the lines of some of Shakespeare’s greatest plays 
  • Royal Scottish Dancers: Social dancing style first popular in Scotland during the 18th century, considered the traditional "ballroom dancing" of Scotland.
  • Scavenger Hunt: Find all of the mystical characters and turn your completed scavenger hunt card in for a prize!
  • Sheep Herding: Watch sheep herding demos daily in the Shepherd’s Green!
  • SkyVault Theatre: The most seasoned Shakespearean actors of the renowned Words Players Theatre are bringing their talents to the Realm. See SkyVault theatre on-stage and in the street as your favorite characters in this season long celebration!
  • Terpsichory Maypole: Maypole dancing is a form of folk dance from Germany, England and Sweden. Come relive the traditional ribbon dance celebrating the seasons!  Terpsichory can be found all over site, teaching and performing a variety of Italian, English Country, Irish Ceili and French Renaissance dances. 
  • Throne of Swords: Experience the infamous, ominous Throne of Swords! Be wary of the One Eyed ravens…:
  • Tuey the Juggler: Tuey performs stunts based on the classic skills of his craft, such as juggling, tight rope walking, and more!
  • The Wacky Chickens: The Wacky Chicken Show uses the age-old metaphor of the chicken and egg as symbols of life, weaving a hysterically funny, ultimately thoughtful, and joyful story of human yearning, failure, and spiritual triumph—while clucking, strutting, and laying eggs. Lloyd Brant and Rosie Cole have performed their Daffy Duck inspired show across the USA.
  • Wishing Well: Drop a coin and make your dreams come true! The Ren Fest is proud to partner with the Angel Foundation to support families with cancer.
  • Viking Encampment: Explore the rich Scandinavian history of the Vikings. Learn about their lives through Norse sagas, songs, games, and weapons demos to find your inner Viking. Skol!

Bring your Dog!

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival is dog friendly!

To be eligible to bring your dog to the Fest the following terms must be met.

  1. Fill out the Dog Registration Form
  2. Bring Proof of Rabies Vaccination with dates in one of the following forms:
    • Proof of shots from Veterinarian
    • Tag on Pet with date of expiration
    • Bring your dog to Dog Check-In prior to entry

Important Rules

  • DOGS ONLY! No other pets will be allowed on festival grounds!
  • No puppies under the age of 6 months allowed
    • This is to protect the puppy, who has not received all of its vaccinations yet and to protect all the other dogs at the Festival, who could be susceptible to the puppy’s potential diseases
  • All Dogs must be on a leash at all times
  • Dog leashes cannot exceed 4 feet
  • Owners must clean up after their dogs
  • Only one dog per owner will be allowed
  • Dog Owners must report any accidents to first aid immediately
  • All Dogs must have their festival tag visible at all times
  • Dogs are not allowed at the Feast of Fantasy

All service animals will be admitted into the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in accordance with ADA regulations and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.

Magic the Gathering Tournament

For the fourth year, the Renaissance Festival will feature a Magic the Gathering tournament hosted by Dreamers Games on Festival Friday!

For $30, all gamers will receive three Battle for Ixilan booster packs to play in the booster draft, free Festival admission and the top finishers will receive prizes!

Ladies Shopping Day

Grab your friends for a day of shopping and wine for only $25!
Online or at the Box Office.

If you already have admission to the Festival, (season pass, comp ticket, etc.) Ladies Shopping Day will only be an additional $10 at Banner Oak Event Center.

Ticket includes admission, free glass of wine, gift bag, and the opportunity to receive discounts from select artisans all day!

Social hour from 5pm to 6 pm at the Banner Oak Event Center with appetizers, raffle prizes from artisans — and you can compare your great shopping finds with the other shoppers!

College Discount Day

Box Office General Admission only $15 with valid College Student ID.
Cannot be combined with any other discounts or coupons.
