Roseville Skating Center

2661 Civic Center Dr
Roseville, MN 55113

Roseville Ice Arena

Class includes 30 minutes of practice time from 10am-10:30am followed by 30 minutes of lesson from 10:30am-11am.

Description: The ISI instructional program has a logical progression of skill development, whereby skills learned in each level build on skills achieved in the preceding level. It appeals to first-time skaters because it teaches skills they can master almost immediately.

The first couple weeks of the session are focused on trying to group skaters by test level and ability. Students are evaluated at each class lesson to see if they are ready to be tested to move to the next level.

Levels: Beginner, Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Gamma, Delta Freestyle 1 - 10

Skates: Skaters can use figure skates or hockey skates. Blades must be made of steel (not aluminum). Double runner skates are NOT allowed. Proper fit is a must. Buying skates too big for your child to “grow into” is not recommended. The skates should be firm enough to support the ankle. Skates should fit snugly with one pair of lightweight socks or tights. Never walk with skates on in areas of the building where the floor is not covered with rubber matting. To protect the blades against rusting, wipe them completely dry after each use and before putting the skate guards on them. At home, remove the skate guards to assure proper drying. Make sure your child’s blades are sharp for each day of class, so your child can skate to the best of their ability. If you need help in determining whether the blades are sharp or not, the instructors will be happy to assist you.

Clothing: When dressing for ice skating, wear layered clothing. This will provide warmth without bulk. Mittens or gloves are a must. A hat or helmet may be worn for protection. Helmets are recommended for all beginner skaters. Hockey or bike helmets work great. Loose fitting pants are ideal. Snow pants are not recommended. They are slippery, which makes it hard for a child to get up after falling.

Target age range: for ages 5 – 17 years

Cost per child/student: $76 ($68 for Roseville residents)
Skate rental: $2 a class (limited sizes available)
