Description: Want to build a full-scale functioning R2-D2? Or maybe you prefer BB-8? Or perhaps you have your own astromech design? Join the United Space Astromech Assemblers (USAA)!

Astromech engineers will build their droids at home, based on their own design, and their own budget. USAA encourages astromech engineers to experiment, to try new ideas, to refine old one, and to enjoy the process. Building a full-scale functioning astromech droid will take most builders from 2 to 5 years to fully complete.

Monthly meetings are a place to share strategies, ask for help, and show off what you've accomplished. Meetings will have a focal topic, and the group will start by focusing on the dome.

Meeting dates and topics

Target age range: the engineering skills required for this long-term independent project is probably most accessible for ages 12 and up

Cost per child/student: meetings are free, you determine the budget for your astromech

It is recommended that each astromech assembler purchase a large 3-ring binder to keep your astromech building plans organized.

All astromech assemblers are encouraged to sign up for a free account on astromech.net, the official website of the R2-D2 Builders Club.

Sibling policy: Parents are asked to use their best judgement as to whether or not non-participating siblings will be disruptive.
Parent/guardian/educator policy: Adult supervision is not provided.
