Field trips

Description: ACNW offers a variety of top-rated, accredited, outdoor educational experiences in a beautiful 500-acre sanctuary perfectly located for residential or single-day trips. Skilled staff, comfortable accommodations and great food pair nicely with top-quality environmental and outdoor programming.

Specializes in 2 to 5-day residential experiences for K–12th grade students. Classes are facilitated by highly trained Audubon Center staff and graduate interns from throughout the U.S. and around the world.

One-day educational program package include classes of your choice all morning and/or afternoon, with lunch in between. You have the option of bringing your own bag lunch, or having the kitchen provide a meal. Programs and classes are also offered on an “a la carte” basis.

Minimum group size: 5, billed for minimum of 12 people
Maximum group size: modern lodging capacity for 162 overnight guests

Parent/guardian/educator policy: Supervision of students is necessary at all times! There should always be an adult present during classes, free times, meal times, and in the lodges. At least 1 adult chaperone required for every 15 students. There is no charge for required adult leaders. Additional adults will be charged the child/student cost. Signed liability releases and health forms are required.

Target grade level: for Kindergarten–12th grade (5th grade is standard)

Cancellation policy/deadline: Must cancel at least 4 months in advance to avoid a 30% to 50% cancellation fee. The final billing is made upon your group's departure and is calculated on the actual numbers indicated in your final number confirmation plus any ‘last minute’ additions and any repair costs for damage.

Getting there

Driving directions: Located near Sandstone; only 6 miles from I-35, 90 miles north of the Twin Cities (about 1½ hours) and 60 miles south of Duluth (about 1 hour). The sanctuary is on Grindstone Lake.
