Homeschool Classes | Field Trips
Open for scheduled visits only, this rustic learning center situated within Baker Park Reserve features miles of trails, many natural habitats, a rock climbing wall, nature and outdoor recreation classes, hands-on activities for all ages plus eight cabins and an expansive Lodge. Just 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, it’s like getting out of town without actually leaving.
Each cabin has eight beds, a wood stove and a nearby cooking pad with a grill and seating area. The log lodge features a meeting and activity room that seats up to 120 people lecture-style and up to 80 for meals, a large stone fireplace, wrap-around porch, modern restrooms, and an institutional kitchen.

Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement offers monthly homeschool classes on showshoeing, ice fishing, ecology, maple syruping, orienteering, digital photography, archery, rock climbing and more.

From Natural History to Outdoor Life Skills and beyond, Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement programs span topics that will appeal to many ages and interests including Native Americans Skills & Technology, Archaeology, Orienteering, Canoeing, Snowshoeing, Cross-County Skiing, Archery, Rock Climbing Wall, Team Building, Wilderness Skills, and more. Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement can accommodate groups for both day or overnight use.
Day Class Prices
2 hours or less: $4.25/participant
2 to 4 hours: $8/participant
4 or more hours: $10.75/participant
$85 minimum total fee for day education groups. Adults assisting or chaperoning children are not charged unless actively participating in programs.
