Description: Named after University of Minnesota President Cyrus Northrop, who served as the second president of the University of Minnesota from 1884 to 1911, Northrop is an epicenter of discovery and transformation that connects the University of Minnesota and communities beyond by celebrating innovation in the arts, performance, and academics.

Weekday matinees

Individual homeschool families receive the group rate (no minimum group size required). Identify yourself as a homeschool family to receive the special discount rate!

Description: Experience world-renowned, innovative dance and unleash your students creative curiosity! Northrop offers approachable, unique, and exciting student matinees dripping with opportunities for students to explore and to imagine new ways of thinking. Students will collectively gasp in awe as they witness the beauty and physical abilities of the human body. They will experience first-hand the awesome sensation of being at a live performance, and a part of an audience that explodes into applause.

Most matinees are 60 minutes long, and most include a discussion and Q&A session as well.

Northrop also provides study/discussion guides for each performance.

Cost per child/student: $3
Cost per adult/educator: $3

Target grade level: most matinees are intended for students in 6th-12th grades

Payment deadline: Payment is at least 1 month prior to the performance date.

Sibling policy: All children in attendance must have a ticket and be in the intended age range.
Parent/guardian/educator policy: All children must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.

Description: Selected performances and events at Northrop offer discounts or specialized pricing to educational groups, educators, and students, including 25% off tickets to Northrop dance season evening performances. Driving directions: Located on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.


Cash payment at the time of entry is required for all event parking.

Arrive early as space fills quickly during all events. Please plan accordingly. Check the U of M Tickets and Events website to see if prepaid, reserved parking is available for the event that you are attending.
